Recovery of Yousef Al-Zaydana's Body from Gaza
In a recent development, Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the recovery of two hostages' bodies from Gaza. However, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) clarified that only the body of Yousef Al-Zaydana was retrieved. Yousef, who was kidnapped on October 7, was found in an underground tunnel in the Rafah area. The IDF also discovered items linked to his son, Hamza Al-Zaydana, raising concerns for his safety.
Yousef and Hamza, from the Bedouin city of Rahat, were abducted while working at Kibbutz Holit. Yousef's daughters, Bilal and Aisha, were also kidnapped but released during a ceasefire in November 2023. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum remembered Yousef as a man of dialogue and strength.
The October 7 attacks by Hamas resulted in over 1,200 deaths and 252 hostages. Of the 96 remaining hostages, more than 30 have been declared dead. Hamas continues to hold two Israeli civilians and the bodies of two soldiers since 2014.
