Parliamentary Standing Committees for 2024-2025 Announced
The Department-Related Parliamentary Standing Committees for 2024-2025 were formed on Thursday. Congress members will chair four key committees, including the External Affairs committee, which will be led by Shashi Tharoor.
Key Congress Members
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, is a member of the Defence committee. Digvijaya Singh will head the committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports. Charanjit Singh Channi will lead the committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Food Processing. Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka will chair the committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
Other Notable Chairpersons
BJP’s Radha Mohan Singh will head the Defence committee. Bhartruhari Mahtab will lead the Finance committee. Anurag Thakur and Rajiv Pratap Rudy have been appointed to chair the committees on Coal, Mines, and Steel; and Water Resources, respectively. Nishikant Dubey will head the committee on Communications and Information Technology, and Dr. Radha Mohan Das Agrawal will lead the Home Affairs committee.
Additional Committee Leaders
TMC’s Dola Sen will chair the Commerce committee, while Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party will head the Health and Family Welfare committee. Tiruchi Siva of DMK will lead the Industry panel. The committee on Communications and IT includes members from various parties, such as SP’s Jaya Bachchan and BJP’s Kangana Ranaut.

Major BJP allies will also chair committees: Shiv Sena’s Shrirang Appa Chandu Barne for Energy, TDP’s Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy for Housing and Urban Affairs, and NCP’s Sunil Tatkare for Petroleum and Natural Gas. JD(U)’s Sanjay Jha will head the Transport, Tourism, and Culture committee.
