Punjab CEO Sibin C Prepares for Jalandhar West By-Election

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C held a meeting with Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner, Police Commissioner, and SSP to discuss the upcoming by-election for the Jalandhar West Assembly Constituency. The meeting, conducted via video conferencing, focused on ensuring a smooth and fair voting process.

Arrangements for Voters

CEO Sibin C instructed officials to provide water coolers, fans, seating, toilets, and sheds at polling stations. Special arrangements include separate queues for the elderly and pregnant women, and ramps and wheelchairs for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) voters. In case of long queues, chairs and medical kits will be available for polling staff.

Security Measures

To ensure security, 100% live webcasting of polling stations will be implemented for real-time monitoring. The Police Commissioner and SSP were directed to increase checkpoints and maintain round-the-clock CCTV vigilance 48 hours before the polls. Security will be tightened at sensitive polling booths, strong rooms, and counting centers.

Special Polling Booths

Eleven model polling booths will be set up, including a Pink booth at Mintgumri Guru Nanak Public School, Adarsh Nagar, manned entirely by women. Other special booths include a Green booth, a Youth polling station, and a PwD booth for specially-abled persons.

Voter Statistics

The Jalandhar West Assembly Constituency has 1,72,020 voters, including 82,327 female voters and 89,685 male voters. There are 873 PwD voters, with 389 specially-abled women and 484 specially-abled men. The constituency also has 5,005 youth voters aged 18-19 and 746 voters above 85 years old.

Election Schedule

Voting for the Jalandhar West Assembly Constituency by-election will take place on July 10, 2024, from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. The results will be announced on July 13, 2024, after the counting of votes.
