On January 23, 2025, Thailand made history by becoming the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. Hundreds of same-sex couples gathered at the Siam Paragon shopping center in Bangkok to celebrate this momentous occasion. The new law, approved by Thailand's parliament and endorsed by King Maha Vajiralongkorn in 2024, grants same-sex couples full legal, financial, and medical rights, including adoption and inheritance rights. The marriage equality law was officially enacted on September 24, 2024, and published in the Royal Gazette, marking a new era of acceptance and recognition for same-sex couples in Thailand.
