Prime Minister Narendra Modi Visits the US for Quad Summit and UN Meeting
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Philadelphia International Airport on Saturday morning for a three-day visit to the United States. Philadelphia is a historic city where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed.
Quad Summit
PM Modi will join US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for the Quad Summit. This group of countries works together for peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. President Biden welcomed the leaders, calling them friends and essential partners for a free and open Indo-Pacific.
PM Modi and President Biden will have a bilateral meeting to discuss ways to deepen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. This partnership covers many areas, including defense cooperation, which was renewed for ten years in 2015. The US is India’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching USD 190.1 billion in 2023.
Community Event and Business Roundtable
On September 22, PM Modi will address a community event for the Indian diaspora at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale. There are about 4.4 million Indian Americans in the US, making them the third-largest Asian ethnic group in the country. PM Modi will also attend a business roundtable with CEOs of leading US companies in areas like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, and biotechnology.
Summit of the Future
From Wilmington, PM Modi will travel to New York to attend the Summit of the Future at the United Nations on September 23. The theme of the summit is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow.’ The summit will focus on issues like health, energy security, climate change, and economic inequalities. A Pact for the Future will be the outcome document of the summit.
