Drone Attacks Lead to Airport Restrictions in Kazan and Saratov, Russia
Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency has temporarily halted flights at Kazan International Airport and imposed restrictions at Gagarin Airport in Saratov. This decision follows alleged drone attacks by Ukraine. Kazan, over 600 miles from Ukrainian territory, reported eight drones targeting the city, with no casualties. Fires were reported in three districts, prompting selective school evacuations. Tatarstan's head, Rustam Minnikhanov, confirmed a "massive UAV attack" and urged calm.
Russia's Defence Ministry claimed to have shot down six Ukrainian drones over Kazan. Meanwhile, Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 113 drones into Ukraine, with 57 being shot down. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian attacks destroyed an oncology center in Kherson and damaged buildings in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia. He thanked international partners for their support against Russian aggression.
The attacks followed a missile and drone strike on Kyiv, causing significant damage and casualties. Several foreign embassies were also affected.
