During his historic visit to Guyana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be awarded the highest national honors by both Guyana and Barbados. Guyana will present PM Modi with 'The Order of Excellence', while Barbados will confer the 'Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados'.
Previously, Dominica awarded PM Modi the 'Dominica Award of Honour' for his contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and efforts to strengthen India-Dominica relations. Nigeria also honored him with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), making him the second foreign dignitary to receive this award after Queen Elizabeth in 1969.
PM Modi's visit marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana in 56 years. He was warmly received by President Irfan Ali and PM Mark Phillips upon arrival. During his visit, PM Modi will co-chair the second India-CARICOM Summit with the Prime Minister of Grenada and engage in talks with President Irfan Ali. He will also address the National Assembly of Guyana.
