The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully rescued seven Indian fishermen who were detained by a Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) vessel near the India-Pakistan maritime boundary. The incident occurred on November 17 when an ICG ship received a distress call from an Indian fishing boat near the No-Fishing Zone.
The distress call reported that another Indian fishing boat, Kal Bhairav, had been intercepted by a PMSA vessel, and seven crew members were taken into custody. The ICG ship responded swiftly, reaching the location at maximum speed. Despite the PMSA vessel's attempts to retreat, the ICG ship intercepted it and successfully negotiated the release of the fishermen.
All seven fishermen were found to be in stable condition, but the fishing boat Kal Bhairav was damaged and sank during the incident. The ICG ship returned to Okha Harbour on November 18, where a joint investigation was launched involving the ICG, state police, intelligence agencies, and fisheries authorities to examine the incident and rescue operation.
This operation underscores the ICG's commitment to the safety and welfare of Indian fishermen, highlighting its dedication to protecting the Indian maritime community.
