Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif Denies Deal with Imran Khan
Islamabad, Pakistan - Pakistan's Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, has stated that no deal has been offered to Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Asif emphasized that any decisions regarding Khan will be made by the courts. He criticized PTI's actions in the National Assembly, questioning their commitment to genuine dialogue. Asif noted that serious negotiations require both parties to stop aggressive behavior.
Asif also addressed claims of backdoor communications with PTI, clarifying that while there are official interactions with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, the significance of connections involving Ali Amin Gandapur is often overstated. Additionally, Asif accused PTI of spreading false information about US involvement in Pakistan's political issues, criticizing their shift from an "Absolutely Not" to an "Absolutely Yes" stance.
In a related matter, the US State Department expressed concerns over the conviction of 25 civilians by military courts in Pakistan. US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller called for respect for fair trial rights and due process.
