Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, known as Masdar, has announced the selection of key suppliers and contractors for a groundbreaking renewable energy project. This project, unveiled at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), aims to deliver continuous renewable energy by combining solar photovoltaic (PV) power with battery storage.
Masdar has chosen JA Solar and Jinko Solar, two leading PV module suppliers, and CATL, the largest battery manufacturer, as preferred suppliers. Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts have been awarded to Larsen & Toubro and POWERCHINA. The agreements were signed at a special ceremony at the Masdar Pavilion during ADSW.
The project, developed in collaboration with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), will feature a 5.2GW solar PV plant and a 19GWh battery energy storage system (BESS). This will make it the largest solar and BESS project globally, capable of providing 1 gigawatt of power 24/7.
JA Solar and Jinko Solar will supply PV modules with a capacity of 2.6GW each, using advanced TopCon technology for maximum efficiency. CATL will provide its TENER technology for the BESS, ensuring safety, longevity, and high integration.
Abdulaziz Alobaidli, Masdar's COO, emphasized the project's role in overcoming renewable energy challenges and setting a new benchmark in clean energy. This initiative supports the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and aligns with the UAE's commitments at COP28.
