On January 16-17, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, Abhay Thakur, visited the Sittwe Port in Myanmar's Rakhine province to review the operations of the Kaladan Project. This port is a crucial part of the India-assisted Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Corridor (KMMTTC) Project.
Accompanied by officials from the Indian Embassy in Yangon, the Consulate General in Sittwe, and India Ports Global Limited (IPGL), Ambassador Thakur met with local leaders to discuss development initiatives and community programs. He emphasized the port's strategic importance as an "India-Myanmar Friendship Project," enhancing connectivity and tourism.
During his visit, Ambassador Thakur met with the Chief Minister of Rakhine State, U Htein Lin, to discuss cooperation, capacity building, and humanitarian initiatives. They highlighted the need to align projects with local needs for the benefit of Rakhine's people. The Ambassador also stressed the importance of peace and stability for the project's success.
Ambassador Thakur visited the Sri Sri Moha Dev Bari Temple, engaging with the Indian-origin community about consular services and strengthening ties with India. He concluded his visit by reviewing the Consulate General of India in Sittwe, reinforcing India's commitment to cultural connections with Myanmar.
