North Korea Launches Missile Towards Sea of Japan
North Korea has launched a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan, as reported by the South Korean military and confirmed by Japan's Defence Ministry. The missile landed outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.
Timing of the Launch
This launch took place just two weeks before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump on January 20. It also coincided with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to South Korea, Japan, and France from January 4-9.

Previous Missile Launch
On October 31, Japan's Defence Ministry reported another North Korean missile launch, suspected to be an intercontinental ballistic missile. This missile flew eastward, landing outside Japan's EEZ, marking the longest-ever trajectory of a North Korean missile.
