Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's Official Visit to UK, Scotland, and Guernsey
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has embarked on a five-day official visit to the United Kingdom, Scotland, and Guernsey. The visit, from January 7 to 9, is at the invitation of Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. During his time in London, Birla will meet with Hoyle and Lord McFall of Alcluith, the Lord Speaker of the House of Lords. He will also visit the B R Ambedkar Museum, pay respects at Mahatma Gandhi's statue, and engage with the Indian diaspora.
In Scotland, Birla is scheduled to meet Alison Johnstone MSP, the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, and John Swinney MSP, the First Minister of Scotland. He will also interact with cross-party Members of the Scottish Parliament.
Birla will then travel to Guernsey to chair the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC). This meeting is part of his role as the host of the 28th CSPOC, which will be held in India in 2026. He will also meet with his counterparts from other Parliaments during this event.
