The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has opened a new Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in the tribal region of Araku, Alluri Seetharamaraju district, Andhra Pradesh. This marks the 443rd POPSK in India and the 8th under the Regional Passport Office (RPO) Visakhapatnam.
The inauguration was attended by Gumma Thanuja Rani, Member of Parliament of Araku, Regam Matyalingam, MLA of Araku, and KJ Srinivasa, Joint Secretary (Passport Seva Programme) & Chief Passport Officer from the MEA, along with other officials.
This new center is part of the government's effort to make passport services more accessible, especially in remote areas. It will serve residents of several villages in the Araku Valley, including Araku, Palakonda, Kurupam, Parvathipuram, Paderu, and Rampachodavaram.
Thanuja Rani highlighted the benefits to the local community and the improvement in public service delivery. The center will initially handle 50 appointments per day, with the potential to increase based on demand.
The Government of India has been working on e-Governance initiatives to enhance public service delivery, including reforms in passport services through the Passport Seva Programme (PSP) Division.
