Mayawati Speaks Against Casteism and Promotes Correct Terms for SC/ST in Haryana Rally
BSP chief Mayawati, at an election rally in Jagadhri, Haryana, criticized those who promote casteism, stating they act against the Constitution. She disapproved of the term ‘Harijan’ for SC/ST communities, recalling a 1977 conference where she corrected Janta Party leaders on this issue.
Mayawati shared her experience as a first-year LLB student at Delhi University when the Janta Party came to power and promised to make Jagjivan Ram the Prime Minister, a promise unfulfilled by both Congress and Janta Party. She spoke at the ‘Jati Todo Sammelan’ conference, where she challenged the use of ‘Harijan’ and advocated for the terms SC, ST, and OBC as per the Constitution.
Mayawati also mentioned the growing public support for the BSP-INLD alliance in the Haryana Assembly elections. She expressed confidence in forming the government and ending attempts to abolish reservations. Haryana will vote on October 5, with results announced on October 8. In the 2019 elections, BJP won 40 seats, and Congress secured 30 seats.
