Manish Tewari Criticizes S Jaishankar Over Deportation of Indians from US

In New Delhi, Congress MP Manish Tewari expressed strong criticism towards External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's statement in the Lok Sabha regarding the deportation of Indian nationals from the US. Tewari accused Jaishankar of defending the use of handcuffs and shackles by the Trump administration, calling it "deeply shocking and acutely disturbing."

Tewari shared his concerns on social media, stating that Jaishankar's remarks seemed more like those of a "mid-level official of the US government" rather than India's Foreign Minister. He questioned the intent of the Indian government, highlighting that countries like Mexico, Colombia, and Guatemala had shown more self-respect in similar situations.

Jaishankar, in his statement, mentioned that deportations by the US are organized by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and follow procedures effective since 2012. He assured that women and children are not restrained and that deportees' needs are attended to during transit. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of cracking down on illegal migration while easing visas for legitimate travelers.

Opposition parties criticized the government for the "inhuman manner" in which the deported Indians were brought back, alleging mistreatment and handcuffing. Jaishankar assured that the government is engaging with the US to prevent mistreatment of deportees during flights.
