The detention took place on Thursday, as confirmed by Additional Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mollick. He stated that Shaon was taken in after receiving some information, but did not provide further details.
Shaon, known for her roles as an actress, director, dancer, and playback singer, has been vocal against the interim government of Bangladesh on social media. Her detention coincides with a series of protests and acts of vandalism, including an attack on the residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Dhaka.

On Wednesday, a mob vandalized the residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with visuals showing flames on one of the floors. The protesters, demanding a ban on the Awami League, caused significant damage after breaking into the premises. This protest was reportedly linked to an online speech by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Attack on Shaon's Ancestral Home
In a separate incident, Shaon's ancestral home in Jamalpur was set on fire by protesters. The house, belonging to her father, Engineer Mohammad Ali, was attacked near Narundi Railway Station. Her mother, Begum Tahura Ali, had served as an MP from the reserved seat for women.
Shaon, who won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her work in "Krihnopokkho" (2016), was married to the late writer and director Humayun Ahmed.
