Karachi Faces Rising Incidents of Road Accidents and Robbery-Related Violence

In the first two weeks of the new year, Karachi, a major city in Pakistan, has seen a worrying increase in deaths and injuries due to road accidents, robbery resistance, and aerial firing. According to a report by the Chipa Foundation, 36 people have died in traffic accidents, and 528 others, including children and the elderly, have been injured.

Robbery resistance incidents have also been deadly, with three people killed and over 15 injured. Notably, two residents of Zaman Town, Saahil Masih and Asif, were murdered during robbery attempts. Another individual, Hafiz Muzafar, was shot after alerting others about robbers.

Despite these incidents, police in the Malir and Korangi areas have not yet arrested any suspects, raising concerns about law enforcement's effectiveness. Aerial firing has also resulted in one death and injuries to 11 people, including nine men and two women.

In a recent incident, a man was shot dead after resisting a robbery. Senior Superintendent of Police Korangi, Kamran Khan, reported that five robbers entered a house, and when a youth raised an alarm, they shot him fatally. Another man was killed while resisting a robbery at his tyre shop near the government Islamia Law College.
