JFE Engineering, a leading Japanese engineering company, has initiated its first international waste management project in Malaysia. This project, approved by the Malaysian government in July 2024, is a collaboration between Malaysia's Naza Enviro Holdings, Japan's J&T Recycling Corporation, and JFE Engineering Malaysia, forming the joint venture J&T Berjaya Alam Murni (JBAM).
The project aims to develop the Sustainable Scheduled Waste Treatment Centre in Malaysia, which will handle clinical, toxic, and hazardous waste from medical facilities and industries. The facility uses innovative heat recovery techniques from incineration to support thermal recycling, reducing waste moisture content.
Mitsuhisa Inoue, General Manager at JBAM, explained that the facility uses a kiln-stoker-type incinerator, capable of processing various waste types with a capacity of 70 tons per day and 20,000 tons annually. Operations are centrally monitored to ensure safety and compliance with air emission standards.
Peter Wong, CEO of JBAM, highlighted that NAZA Enviro operates the Bukit Tagar Enviro Park, Malaysia's leading sanitary landfill. This project marks a significant milestone for JFE Group's environmental initiatives in Malaysia, promoting future collaborations and sustainable waste management practices.
