In Balochistan, Pakistan, Baloch activist Mahrang Baloch has accused the Turbat Police of filing an unlawful First Information Report (FIR) against members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee. This action followed a peaceful seminar organized by the committee in Turbat city, focusing on the ongoing Baloch genocide.
Mahrang Baloch criticized the police's actions, stating, "On November 24, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) organized a peaceful seminar in Turbat City on the ongoing Baloch genocide. Despite the nonviolent nature of the event, yesterday, under the directives of law enforcement agencies, the Turbat Police filed an unlawful FIR against senior advocates of Turbat, Amma Naseema, a 70-year-old Baloch woman, Family of Balach Moula Bux, Sibgatullah, other BYC representatives, and myself."
She further expressed that this reflects Pakistan's shift towards authoritarianism, where peaceful gatherings are suppressed. Mahrang emphasized their commitment to raising their voices against enforced disappearances and supporting their people's rights, stating, "Such oppressive tactics will not deter us. We will not remain silent under any circumstances. We will continue to raise our voices for our rights and against the systematic genocide of the Baloch people."
While the FIR registration is confirmed, local authorities have not commented on the accusations. Human rights organizations have raised concerns about the restrictions on political activities and freedom of expression in Balochistan, highlighting the misuse of legal processes to intimidate activists.
