In Bhuvaneshwar, Odisha, Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs, emphasized the importance of expanding discussions on regional cooperation and maritime heritage beyond New Delhi. He highlighted Odisha's historical significance in commerce, trade, and maritime linkages.
Mazumdar spoke at the second edition of the International Conference on Purvodaya Perspectives: Reclaiming India's Maritime Heritage. He stressed the need for states like Odisha to be aware of opportunities in the Bay of Bengal region, BIMSTEC, and ASEAN countries.
The conference, held from December 14 to 15, was organized by The Energy Forum with support from the Ministry of External Affairs. It is part of the Ministry's foreign policy outreach initiatives.
Mazumdar delivered the keynote address, focusing on the maritime economy's role in the economic potential of India's Eastern Seaboard States, including Odisha. He also discussed initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for the Indo-Pacific, SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region).
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of a free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific during the QUAD Summit in September. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reiterated this vision during the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue in October.
