Israel's Environmental Initiative in Negev
Israel's Ministry of Environmental Protection is actively working on a five-year plan to enhance the environment, health, and quality of life in Bedouin communities located in the Negev region. This plan has a budget of 91 million Shekels, equivalent to USD 24.8 million.
Progress and Future Plans
As of now, 40 million Shekels, or USD 10.9 million, have been utilized. The Ministry is in discussions with Bedouin community leaders to decide how to allocate the remaining 50 million Shekels.
Challenges Faced
The Bedouin communities in the Negev are dealing with several environmental issues. These include outdated infrastructure, environmental hazards, environmental crime, and high waste treatment costs, according to the Ministry.
