Israeli Soldiers Strike Hezbollah Squad in Southern Lebanon
On Wednesday morning, Israeli soldiers targeted a Hezbollah squad in southern Lebanon. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported that the squad was transferring weapons from a storage facility to a vehicle. The IDF released footage showing the terrorists moving weapons to a white van parked outside a building before the strike on Tuesday.
The Israeli Air Force (IAF) took action to eliminate the threat by striking both the weapons storage facility and the vehicle. The IDF is operating under the ceasefire agreements between Israel and Lebanon, which began on November 27. According to these terms, Hezbollah is required to withdraw its armed presence from areas south of the Litani River in southern Lebanon.
Israeli forces are also set to withdraw from southern Lebanon in stages. The Lebanese Armed Forces will be deployed first, including along the 120 km border with Israel, with oversight from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 Second Lebanon War, prohibits Hezbollah from operating in southern Lebanon south of the Litani River.
