Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei Orders Retaliation Against Israel for Hamas Leader’s Death

Tehran, Iran – Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has commanded a direct strike on Israel following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. This directive was issued during an emergency meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Haniyeh was killed shortly after attending the inauguration of Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian. Iran and Hamas have accused Israel of the assassination, although Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.

Iranian officials are contemplating a combination of drone and missile attacks on military targets near Tel Aviv and Haifa, while avoiding civilian areas. They are also considering a coordinated attack from allied fronts in Yemen, Syria, and Iraq.

Khamenei, who has ultimate authority over state matters and the armed forces, has instructed military commanders to prepare for both offensive and defensive actions in case of further escalation involving Israel or the US.

In a public statement, Khamenei emphasized the need for retaliation, stating, “we see avenging his blood our duty,” and warned Israel of severe punishment. Other Iranian officials, including President Pezeshkian, have echoed this sentiment, asserting Iran’s right to defend its sovereignty.

The assassination of Haniyeh, a significant figure, at a secure Revolutionary Guards guesthouse has been seen as a major security breach and an embarrassment for Iran. Analysts believe that Iran views retaliation as essential to deter further Israeli attacks and maintain its credibility with regional partners.
