The Indian Navy Ship, INS Sarvekshak, has reached Port Louis, Mauritius, to conduct a Joint Hydrographic Survey. The ship was welcomed on December 26 by Anurag Srivastava, the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, and Captain CG Binoop, Commandant of the Mauritius National Coastguard, along with other dignitaries.
A meeting was held with the Hydrographic Survey Unit of Mauritius to coordinate the survey. INS Sarvekshak will work with Mauritian authorities to exchange technical knowledge and conduct training sessions on hydrography. This survey is vital for Mauritius to enhance its maritime infrastructure and coastal development planning.
The visit underscores the strong maritime partnership between India and Mauritius, aligning with India's SAGAR vision, which stands for Security And Growth for All in the Region. The ship's arrival was celebrated with a grand reception, attended by Mr. MS Ayoob Saab from the Ministry of Housing & Lands and Mr. Vimarsh Aryan, Acting High Commissioner of India.
This visit follows Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri's recent trip to Mauritius, marking the first high-level engagement between the two nations since the new government led by Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam took office. India and Mauritius share a deep-rooted relationship, with cultural and educational exchanges playing a significant role. Approximately 80,000 Indian tourists visit Mauritius each year, and many Indian students pursue higher education there.
