Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto Joins India's 76th Republic Day Celebration
New Delhi, India - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is attending India's 76th Republic Day celebrations at Kartvya Path. This marks a significant moment as the first Republic Day in 1950 was also attended by then Indonesian President Sukarno. President Prabowo is on his first state visit to India and is the fourth Indonesian President to attend this event.
A 352-member marching and band contingent from Indonesia will participate in the parade, marking the first time an Indonesian contingent joins a national day parade abroad. India and Indonesia share a long history of cultural and trade ties, exemplified by the annual Bali Yatra festival.
Indonesia is a major trading partner for India in the ASEAN region, with bilateral trade reaching US$ 29.40 billion in 2023-24. Indian investments in Indonesia span various sectors, totaling USD 1.56 billion. Indonesia, now part of the BRICS group, appreciates India's support for its membership.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Prabowo Subianto to strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on defense, security, maritime, economic, and cultural ties. During the visit, five Memorandums of Understanding were signed, covering health, traditional medicine, and maritime security.
