Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Activity: Aircraft and Naval Vessels Detected
Taiwan has reported the detection of four Chinese military aircraft and five naval vessels around its territory between 6 am on Sunday and 6 am on Monday. According to Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND), two of the aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line into the northern air defence identification zone (ADIZ). The MND stated, "4 PLA aircraft and 5 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today. 2 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly."
Chinese military activity has been increasing around Taiwan. On Sunday, Taiwan reported six Chinese aircraft and seven naval vessels near its territory, with two aircraft crossing into the southwestern ADIZ. The MND confirmed, "6 PLA aircraft and 7 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today. 2 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's southwestern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly."
This pattern of increased Chinese maneuvers has raised concerns about regional stability. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed concerns over China's actions during a phone call with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. Rubio emphasized the US commitment to its allies and concern over China's coercive actions against Taiwan and in the South China Sea. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that the US aims to maintain a relationship with Beijing that prioritizes American interests.
