The mission, known as the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX), involves the PSLV-C60 rocket carrying innovative payloads.
The primary goal of SpaDeX is to develop and demonstrate the technology for rendezvous, docking, and undocking of two small spacecraft, SDX01 (the Chaser) and SDX02 (the Target), in a low-Earth orbit. This technology, called the "Bharatiya Docking System," is crucial for India's future space missions, including "Chandrayaan-4," the planned Indian space station, and the manned "Gaganyaan" mission.
