The Fourth India-UK Energy Dialogue took place in New Delhi, co-chaired by India's Union Minister of Power and Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, and UK's Secretary for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband. The event marked the launch of Phase-2 of the India-UK Accelerating Smart Power and Renewable Energy in India (ASPIRE) programme.
The new phase aims to provide technical support for continuous power supply, expand renewable energy initiatives, and enhance industrial energy efficiency and decarbonization. The dialogue emphasized cooperation in power distribution, sector reforms, and electric mobility, while exploring new opportunities in energy storage, green data centers, and offshore wind.
The ministers highlighted the importance of energy security and sustainable development, reaffirming their commitment to a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive energy future. They discussed the progress of trade missions on offshore wind and green hydrogen, and the collaboration between UK's Energy Systems Catapult and India's Power Trading Corporation.
A UK-India Offshore Wind Taskforce was announced to advance offshore wind ecosystem development. The continuation of the Power Sector Reforms programme under UKPACT was also confirmed, along with a proposed taskforce between UK's OFGEM and India's CERC to support renewable energy integration.
The dialogue concluded with the launch of a 'Best Practices Compendium of Industrial Energy Efficiency/Decarbonisation' and a 'Pathways for Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation in the Indian Aluminium Sector'. Both sides expressed their intention to strengthen collaboration through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and look forward to the next dialogue in 2026.
ASPIRE stands for 'Accelerating Smart Power and Renewable Energy'. It is a program aimed at improving the use of renewable energy and making industries more efficient in using energy.
The Fourth Energy Dialogue is a meeting between India and the UK to discuss energy-related topics. It is the fourth time they have met to talk about these issues.
