In Islamabad, Pakistan, the verdict for the GBP 190 million case involving Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been postponed to January 13. This decision was made by Islamabad's accountability court due to Judge Nasir Javed Rana being on leave. Both the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor and PTI's legal counsel have been informed of this delay. This is the second postponement, with the verdict initially reserved on December 18 and first scheduled for December 23.
Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif accused Imran Khan of unprecedented corruption during his four-year governance. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a corruption reference against Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and others, alleging they obtained billions of rupees and land from Bahria Town in exchange for legalizing PKR 50 billion returned by the UK. The NAB claims this caused a GBP 190 million loss to Pakistan's treasury.
The charges state that Imran Khan and others misallocated PKR 50 billion sent by the UK's National Crime Agency to Pakistan. The corruption reference was registered on December 26, 2019, involving the Al-Qadir University project.
