Imran Khan Meets PTI Team in Jail
On Sunday, members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) negotiation team met with former Prime Minister Imran Khan at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail. The meeting lasted over two hours. Before this, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had a private meeting with Khan. Other PTI leaders present included Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Asad Qaiser, and lawyer Faisal Chaudhry. However, Salman Akram Raja and Hamid Khan did not attend.
Negotiation Efforts
Prior to the meeting, Omar Ayub and Asad Qaiser spoke with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, who facilitated communication between PTI and the government. The first two meetings between the government and PTI occurred on December 23 and January 2, with a third scheduled for Wednesday.
Challenges in Negotiations
PTI leader Asad Qaiser accused Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif of trying to derail negotiations. He claimed their remarks aimed to sabotage talks and mentioned past injustices faced by PTI members, including police actions on November 26 and military trials for civilians involved in May 9 events.
Qaiser emphasized PTI's commitment to Pakistan's future, advocating for a government based on constitutional rule and representing the people. Despite challenges, PTI remains dedicated to its principles of rule of law, independent judiciary, and civilian supremacy.
