Dubai Duty Free ended 2024 with a record-breaking annual turnover of AED7.901 billion (US$2.16 billion), driven by a surge in sales towards the year's end. December was particularly successful, setting a new monthly record with sales of AED821.94 million (US$225.19 million), a 2% increase from the previous year. This was largely due to the 41st anniversary celebrations on December 20, where a 25% discount led to a shopping spree worth AED59.99 million (US$16.44 million).
Confectionery emerged as the top-selling category in December, with a 29.46% increase in sales compared to December 2023. Throughout the year, Dubai Duty Free recorded over 20.733 million sales transactions, averaging 56,649 per day, and sold 55.137 million units of merchandise. An estimated 13.7 million customers shopped at the arrivals and departures stores in 2024.
Online sales reached AED197 million (US$54 million), accounting for 2.5% of the total annual sales. Sales in departures increased by 0.84% year-on-year to AED7.121 billion (US$1.951 billion), making up 90% of the turnover, while arrivals sales dropped by 12.21% to AED537 million (US$147 million), representing 6.8% of the total sales.
Looking forward, Dubai Duty Free plans to enhance its retail operations, including completing the final phase of renovations in the arrival shops across the three terminals, with construction expected to finish early this year.
