Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh has shown his support for the National Sarpanch Sangh (M.P.), which is demanding rights for the Panchayati Raj System. Singh has called for a road blockade if their demands are not met.

In a video, Singh urged Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and state minister for Panchayat Rural Development, Prahlad Patel, to take action. He emphasized Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of empowering villages and mentioned how former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had proposed changes to the Indian Constitution to support this vision, which were not passed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Singh highlighted his own efforts as Chief Minister to amend the Madhya Pradesh Panchayati Raj and conduct elections, giving rights to women and local councils. He criticized the BJP for dismantling the system, leaving Sarpanchs without rights.

Singh announced that if the demands are not met, a 2-hour road blockade will be held in every village on October 18. He called for support on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, when a memorandum will be submitted to the secretaries of every Gram Panchayat across the state.

On October 2, Singh will join Panchayat representatives and local people in Satoriya village, Bina Tehsil, Sagar district, to submit a memorandum in support of the National Sarpanch Sangh’s state-wide demonstration.

The National Sarpanch Sangh’s circular states that elected representatives of the Panchayat Raj system in all 23,000 Gram Panchayats in Madhya Pradesh are fighting for their rights to make villages self-reliant and strong. From October 2 to October 10, Sarpanchs will sit on dharna at every Gram Panchayat headquarters and submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition.

If the demands are not met within five days, a road blockade will be held on October 18. If still unmet, the National Sarpanch Sangh will organize a Rail Roko and Jail Bharo movement at the district level.
