Cole Hocker Wins Gold and Breaks Olympic Record in Men’s 1500m at Paris

United States’ Cole Hocker broke the Olympic record in the men’s 1500m event to win the gold medal in front of a packed crowd at Stade de France. Hocker defeated favorites Josh Kerr of Great Britain and Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway. The 23-year-old finished first with a time of 3:27.65, setting a new Olympic record, surpassing Ingebrigtsen’s previous record of 3:28.32 set in Tokyo.

Great Britain’s Josh Kerr set a national record with a time of 3:27.79 but finished second. Yared Nuguse from the US took the bronze with a personal best of 3:27.80, marking the first time the US had two athletes on the podium in the 1500m event at the Summer Games.

Ingebrigtsen, the reigning Olympic champion, finished fourth with a time of 3:28.24. The race was thrilling, with the crowd roaring from start to finish. Hocker moved ahead in the final part of the race and maintained his lead to cross the finish line first.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling. I just felt like I was getting carried by the stadium and God. My body just kind of did it for me. My mind was all there, and I saw that finish line,” Hocker said after the race. “Winning gold was my goal this entire year. I wrote that down, and I repeated it to myself even if I didn’t believe it,” he added.
