CBI Arrests Railway Engineer in Varanasi for Accepting Bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Senior Divisional Engineer of the North Eastern Railway in Varanasi for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.

Details of the Case

A case was registered by CBI on October 1 based on a complaint against the accused official. The complaint stated that a private firm had been awarded two tenders worth approximately Rs 4 crore by the official on July 25, 2024, for the maintenance of railway tracks from Thawe to Chhapra.

Bribe Demand

The accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant and threatened to obstruct the work and not pass his bills in the future unless the bribe was paid.

CBI Action

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused while demanding and accepting the bribe. The accused was arrested and will be produced before the Court of Learned Special Judge, CBI Court No. 3, Lucknow, on Wednesday. Searches were also conducted at the residential premises of the accused.
