Bhopal Hosts STARS Workshop to Improve Education and Career Readiness

The Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education, organized a two-day STARS knowledge sharing workshop in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, from September 30 to October 1. The event focused on school-to-work transition and enhancing the assessment system.

Inauguration and Keynote Speeches

Uday Pratap Singh, State Minister of Transport and School Education, inaugurated the workshop. He emphasized the National Education Policy 2020’s role in the overall development of children and the importance of the STARS project in transforming the education system.

Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of DoSE&L, highlighted the need to bridge the gap between education and employment. Vipin Kumar, Additional Secretary of DoSE&L, welcomed participants, and Dr. Sanjay Goyal, Secretary of the Department of Education, Madhya Pradesh, stressed the importance of cross-learning between states.

Panel Discussions and Presentations

The first panel discussion, moderated by Vipin Kumar, focused on policy frameworks like the National Education Policy 2020, National Curriculum Framework (NCF), and National Credit Framework (NCrF). The discussion covered integrating skill education into school curricula, promoting real-world exposure through internships, and updating curricula to match industry standards.

Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Director of NCERT, emphasized the need for departments to work together and align curricula with industry demands. Usha Titus, Managing Director of the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme in Kerala, moderated a discussion on psychometric analysis and career counseling in skill education.

On the second day, Vipin Kumar discussed the effectiveness of current assessment models. Smt. Idzes Angmo Kundan, Principal Secretary of Maharashtra, presented on the 3 P approach to career choice: Personal interest, Parental approach, and Possible Opportunities. Dinesh Singh Kushwaha, Director of Public Instructions, Madhya Pradesh, and Jonas Bertling, Director of Educational Testing Service (ETS), discussed innovations in educational assessment.

Maj. Vishal Sharma, Secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Board for Secondary Education, highlighted innovative assessment practices. Pardeshi Siddharth Komal, Principal Secretary of Chhattisgarh, moderated a panel on VSK Modes and integrating assessment outcomes. Ashish Modi, Director of Secondary Education, Rajasthan, presented on the importance of assessment cells, followed by a panel discussion moderated by M.K. Shanmuga Sundaram, Principal Secretary of Basic Education, Uttar Pradesh.
