Delhi LG VK Saxena Orders Major Police Reshuffle

New Delhi [India], October 1: In a significant move, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has ordered the transfer of 36 Indian Police Service officers and five Delhi Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service officers with immediate effect. This decision was made in the larger public interest after reviewing recommendations from the Police Establishment Board.

Law and Order Measures

Given the inputs regarding potential protests, demonstrations, and campaigns in the national capital during the first week of October, the Office of Commissioner of Police, Delhi, announced the enforcement of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at several locations in Delhi. This will be effective from September 30 to October 5.

Reasons for Enforcement

The Commissioner’s office stated that the general atmosphere in Delhi is sensitive from a law and order perspective due to various current issues. These include the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill, the issue of Shahi Idgah in Sadar Bazaar area, the politically charged MCD Standing Committee elections, and the pending declaration of results of DUSU Elections.

Additionally, with the Jammu, Kashmir, and Haryana legislative assembly elections underway, there is a need for continuous monitoring of the movement of persons and vehicles from Delhi borders.
