In New Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit chief, Virendra Sachdeva, raised concerns about the timing of the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship announcement by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal. The scholarship aims to support Dalit students in pursuing higher education at top universities worldwide.
The announcement came amid nationwide protests over remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about Dr BR Ambedkar. Sachdeva questioned why the scholarship was not introduced earlier, noting that the Delhi Sports University remains incomplete after five years. He accused Kejriwal of making announcements as the Delhi assembly elections approach, suggesting that Kejriwal is revisiting poll promises related to Dr Ambedkar.
Arvind Kejriwal, addressing a public event, emphasized that the scholarship would ensure no Dalit student is deprived of higher education. He stated that the Delhi government would cover expenses for Dalit students and government employees from the Dalit community who gain admission to top universities globally. Kejriwal framed the scholarship as a response to perceived disrespect towards Dr Ambedkar by the BJP and Amit Shah.
