Uttarakhand Police and Leaders Pay Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], October 2: On the special occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, a program was held at the Police Headquarters in Dehradun. Abhinav Kumar, the Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, along with other officers and employees, garlanded the pictures of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri to pay homage.

Abhinav Kumar encouraged everyone present to adopt the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, promoting equality, communal harmony, and love in society to help build a strong and prosperous nation. The event was attended by Amit Sinha, Additional Director General of Police, Administration; V Murugeshan, Additional Director General of Police, CBCID; Mrs. Vimmi Sachdeva, Inspector General of Police, Headquarters / P & M; Nilesh Anand Bharne, Inspector General of Police, Crime and Law and Order; and Shri Anand Shankar Takwale, Inspector General of Police, Personnel, along with other officers and employees.

Earlier, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 155th birth anniversary and to Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 120th birth anniversary. In a post on X, Dhami expressed his admiration for Gandhi’s principles of truth and non-violence and Shastri’s honesty and dedication. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to realize a clean, healthy, and prosperous India, inspired by Gandhi’s vision and supported by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat concept.

President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in the national capital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Manohar Lal, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla joined in paying their respects. In a post on X, PM Modi emphasized the lasting impact of Gandhi’s life and ideals, which continue to inspire the nation. He also paid tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri, acknowledging his dedication to the country’s soldiers, farmers, and self-respect.

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year on October 2 to honor Mahatma Gandhi, the ‘Father of the Nation,’ who was born in 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. Gandhi led the non-violent resistance against British colonial rule, which eventually led to India’s independence in 1947. Lal Bahadur Shastri, born in Uttar Pradesh in 1904, served as India’s second Prime Minister from 1964 to 1966 and passed away in Tashkent in 1966 after signing the Tashkent Pact with Pakistan.
