Biden emphasized the diplomatic efforts involved, highlighting support from a coalition of 20 countries and the role of the US in organizing this coalition. He also mentioned the importance of the G20 meeting in Delhi in September 2023 in rallying support for the deal.
Hamas is expected to release 33 Israeli hostages, while Israel will free hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. The conflict began after Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, which resulted in significant casualties on both sides.
