Introduction of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that 7.06 lakh rooftop solar electricity units have been installed in India over the past six months. This initiative is part of the 'PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana', which aims to provide free electricity to one crore households through solar power.
Scheme Details and Progress
The scheme, approved on February 29, 2024, has a budget of Rs 75,021 crore and will run until the fiscal year 2026-27. It offers a 60% subsidy for solar systems up to 2kW and 40% for systems between 2 to 3kW, with a cap at 3kW. The government has received 18 lakh applications, with 1.5 crore registrations and 7.06 lakh installations completed.
Implementation and Support
The National Programme Implementation Agency (NPIA) and State Implementation Agencies (SIAs) are responsible for executing the scheme. DISCOMs will facilitate the process by ensuring net meter availability, timely inspections, and vendor management.
