Union Minister Lalan Singh and PM Modi Lead Cleanliness Drive on Gandhi Jayanti
New Delhi, India – On October 2, JD(U) MP and Union Minister Rajeev Ranjan, also known as Lalan Singh, participated in the Swachhata Abhiyan to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. He emphasized the importance of cleanliness in everyone’s life, stating, “Cleanliness can help in getting rid of many problems.”
He urged that ‘Swachata’ should not just be a slogan but a part of daily life. “If we clean our surroundings, it will help get rid of diseases,” he added.
Swachh Bharat Campaign Marks 10 Years
The Swachh Bharat campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014, marked its tenth anniversary. The campaign was initiated after PM Modi’s call for cleanliness from the Red Fort on August 15, 2014, making sanitation a national priority.
Earlier today, PM Modi participated in a cleanliness drive with school children and urged citizens to join the initiative to strengthen the spirit of ‘Swachh Bharat.’ He will also participate in the Swachh Bharat Diwas 2024 program at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, coinciding with the 155th Gandhi Jayanti.
Bihar Flood Situation
Union Minister Lalan Singh also addressed the flood situation in Bihar, stating that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has always supported flood victims. He mentioned that community kitchens are providing clothing and meals to those affected, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) directed by the Chief Minister.
Several parts of Bihar are experiencing severe flooding due to heavy water discharge from the Kosi Barrage in Birpur, following relentless rainfall in Nepal. Rivers are at or above danger levels in many bordering districts, affecting northern Bihar and Nepal.
