In a devastating event, a Ukrainian rocket attack on the town of Rylsk in Russia's Kursk region resulted in the deaths of six people, including a child. The attack, which occurred on Friday evening, was reported by The Moscow Times and confirmed by Kursk region's Acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein. He accused Ukraine of targeting peaceful sites and public facilities deliberately.
The attack involved US-made HIMARS rockets and left five adults and one child dead. Additionally, eight people, including a teenager, were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Videos from the scene showed cars on fire and buildings severely damaged.
Governor Khinshtein has sent Alexei Dedov, the acting chairman of the Kursk region government, and his deputies to the site. He assured that the perpetrators would face retribution, with the army and law enforcement agencies taking necessary actions. Rylsk district head, Andrei Belusov, reported that around 15 strikes targeted facilities used by the public.
Neither the Kremlin nor Russia's Defence Ministry has issued a statement, and Ukraine has also remained silent on the attack. Earlier on the same day, Russia conducted a missile strike on Kyiv, claiming it was in retaliation for a previous attack on a chemical plant in Russia.
