The United Arab Emirates is set to host the inaugural International Conference on Reprographic Rights Management from February 19 to February 20, 2025, in Sharjah. The event is organized by the Emirates Reprographic Rights Management Association (ERRA) in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Economy and the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO).
The conference will be held under the patronage of Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Honourary President of ERRA. Sheikha Bodour emphasized the importance of the conference for the UAE and the global creative sector, stating that it highlights the UAE's ambition to be a leading platform for dialogue on creators' rights.
The conference aims to discuss the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and their impact on the creative economy. Majd Al Shehhi, Director of ERRA, noted that the event underscores the UAE's commitment to international dialogue on authors' rights and its aspiration to adopt global best practices in cultural and educational sectors.
The first day will include panel discussions on the role of collective management in reprographic rights protection, unauthorized use of creative works, and the implications of artificial intelligence. The second day will focus on sessions for universities, authors, and publishers, with expert presentations on artificial intelligence and reprographic rights.
