Tinashe Muchawaya’s Heroic Comeback in Zim Afro T10 Final

Zimbabwean pacer Tinashe Muchawaya faced immense pressure in the final of the Zim Afro T10 season 2. Defending 21 runs in the last over, he was hit for two consecutive sixes by Jack Taylor. However, with encouragement from his captain Sikandar Raza, Muchawaya bowled brilliantly in the next four deliveries, securing victory for the Jo’Burg Bangla Tigers.

Just a year earlier, Muchawaya was frustrated and considered quitting cricket to move to South Africa. His fortunes changed when coach Stephen Mangongo mentored him at the High-Performance Centre in Zimbabwe. Mangongo, known for leading Zimbabwe to a historic ODI win against Australia in 2014, played a crucial role in Muchawaya’s comeback.

Muchawaya expressed his gratitude, saying, “I wanted to quit cricket but Mr. Steve Mangongo took me under his wing. The High-Performance Centre is the hope of a lot of people in this country.”

Despite facing challenges, including almost getting timed out in his first game, Muchawaya worked hard and achieved significant milestones. He dismissed top players like Dawid Malan and David Warner, the latter twice in consecutive days.

“I feel great. Getting David Warner out is not easy, but I studied his videos and knew where he struggled,” Muchawaya said with a big smile.

Grateful for the Zim Afro T10 tournament, Muchawaya concluded, “This tournament is a big opportunity for us local players, as we are being watched by many nations.”
