Tibetans Protest Outside Chinese Embassy in Delhi on China’s National Day
New Delhi, India – On October 1, as China celebrated its national day, Tibetans held a protest outside the Chinese Embassy in Delhi. They demanded that China be held accountable for committing atrocities in Tibet.
The protesters shouted slogans such as ‘Make China accountable for committing atrocities in Tibet,’ ‘Free Tibet,’ ‘Stop genocide in Tibet,’ ‘China go away,’ and ‘Tibet is not part of China.’
The police detained the protesters as they were shouting slogans against China.
Recently, the Tibetan Youth Congress organized a cycle rally to raise awareness about the cultural genocide in Tibet and to demand that the Chinese government put an end to it. The rally started from Dehradun and passed through Chandigarh, covering more than 400 kilometers before reaching Delhi.
Gonpo Dhundup, President of the Tibetan Youth Congress, said, ‘The cycle rally started on September 24 from Dehradun and has covered more than 400 km across four Indian states and two union territories. We have 54 participants. The major demand of this campaign is to ask the Chinese government to stop the cultural genocide in Tibet. We want to highlight the Tibetan issue through this cycle rally.’
He also called on the international community to stand in solidarity with Tibet and urged the Indian government to support Tibet’s independence.
Earlier, on September 27, the European Union representative at the 57th general session of the United Nations Human Rights Council expressed concerns about the human rights situation in Tibet. The EU highlighted issues such as obligatory boarding schooling, mass DNA sampling, and the closure of Tibetan schools. The EU urged China to respect human rights and cultural heritage and to abide by its national and international obligations.
