Taiwan's Military Plans Major Upgrade for C-130 Aircraft
On December 25, Taiwan's military announced a plan to upgrade its C-130 military transport aircraft. This is part of a six-year project to modernize its fleet. The upgrade involves purchasing new propellers for the aircraft, with a budget of NT 126 million (USD 3.85 million). The contract winner will be announced on January 8, 2025, and the project will run until December 2025.
The overhaul aims to improve the aircraft's capabilities in collision avoidance, sea rescue, and other systems. The project will run from 2025 to 2030, focusing on cockpit integration and sea rescue enhancements. New simulators will be acquired, and outdated systems will be upgraded, including GPS and collision avoidance improvements.
The total budget for the project is expected to exceed NT 10 billion. Taiwan's Air Force has been using 20 C-130 aircraft since the 1980s, which are crucial for the country's military transport needs.
