Taiwan Pledges $5 Million for Lviv Medical Building Renovation

Taiwan has announced a commitment of $5 million to renovate a medical building at the Unbroken National Rehabilitation Center in Lviv, Ukraine. This center, located in the largest city in western Ukraine, will offer post-surgery rehabilitation services. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan confirmed the funding, and once completed, the building will be named the "Taiwan Friendship Building" to honor Taiwan's support.

Representatives from the Taipei Representative Office in Poland, the Lviv City Government, and Unbroken signed a memorandum of understanding virtually to facilitate this aid. Taiwan's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francois Wu, emphasized the government's dedication to supporting Ukraine during the signing ceremony. He assured continued collaboration with Lviv's city government to assist Ukraine in overcoming challenges.

Mayor Sadovyi of Lviv, currently visiting Taiwan, expressed gratitude for Taiwan's generosity, highlighting the benefits for wounded Ukrainians. This financial support follows Taiwan's previous donations, including $800,000 in 2022 to the Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital of Emergency and Intensive Care in Lviv, now part of the Unbroken Center. In the first half of 2022, Taiwan provided $5.8 million to seven Ukrainian hospitals.

Lviv has become a key location for treating injured military personnel and civilians since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Over 16,000 injured Ukrainians, including children, have received treatment at Unbroken. During his visit, Mayor Sadovyi and his delegation attended a luncheon with Taiwan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lin Chia-lung, to discuss the ongoing war and potential exchanges between Ukraine and Taiwan.
