Taiwan detects five Chinese aircraft operating around its territory
Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Activity
On Friday, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the presence of five Chinese military aircraft and five naval vessels near Taiwan. These were detected operating around the island until 6 am local time. The aircraft entered Taiwan's northern and southwestern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). MND shared on X, "5 PLA aircraft and 5 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today."
Earlier, on Thursday, MND noted the operation of five PLAN vessels around Taiwan. The Ministry stated that the situation was monitored and responded to accordingly.
International Concerns
Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi, in a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, expressed concerns about the South China Sea and Taiwan, emphasizing the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte criticized China's actions towards Taiwan, highlighting China's military build-up and its impact on global security. He stated, "China is bullying Taiwan and pursuing access to critical infrastructure in ways that could cripple societies."
The Taiwan Strait remains a point of tension, with Taiwan condemning China's military activities as threats to its sovereignty. China views Taiwan as part of its territory and insists on reunification, potentially by force.
