Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Aircraft and Naval Vessels Near Its Borders

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported that 23 Chinese military aircraft and five naval vessels operated around Taiwan from 6 am on Friday to 6 am on Saturday. Of these, 20 aircraft entered Taiwan’s northern, central, southwest, and eastern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ).

In response, Taiwan’s armed forces monitored the situation and took necessary actions. The MND posted on X, stating, ’23 PLA aircraft and 5 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today. 20 of the aircraft entered Taiwan’s northern, central, SW, and eastern ADIZ. ROC Armed Forces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.’

Since September 2020, China has increased its military presence near Taiwan, using grey zone tactics to assert its objectives without direct force. This incident is part of a series of provocations by China, which claims sovereignty over Taiwan and insists on reunification, potentially by force.

In light of Beijing’s threats to execute supporters of Taiwan’s independence, Taiwan has advised its citizens against traveling to China, Hong Kong, and Macao. Liang Wen-chieh, spokesperson for Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council, issued this warning, highlighting the risks under China’s new guidelines targeting independence supporters.

Earlier, Taiwan criticized Beijing’s threat of harsh punishments, including the death penalty, for those supporting Taiwan’s independence. The Mainland Affairs Council condemned these guidelines as provocative and non-binding on Taiwanese citizens, asserting that Beijing lacks legal jurisdiction over Taiwan.
